43rd Annual Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament
West London Hawks and eight other teams descended on Brantford following Christmas to compete in the Atom MD loop of the 43rd Annual Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament.

Day one saw the Hawks pull off victories over both the Burlington Eagles (5-3) and Sarnia Sting (5-2).  There would be no Sting Surprise Pie this day.

Day two saw an increase in the level of competition.  The Aurora Tigers showed up to play and handed the Hawks a 5-1 defeat.  Game two on December 28th pitted the Hawks against a strong Richmond Hill Stars team.  A victory ensured 3rd place and would allow the Hawks to skip the Quarter final match at 8:30am the next morning.  It was a close affair with the Hawks falling to the Stars 3-2.

The two losses the prior day left the Hawks in 5th place and forced them into a quarter final winner moves on match against the Cambridge Hawks.  The game was tied 1-1 into the third period when Cambridge scored 4 unanswered goals in a short period of time.  Unfortunately, this was too much to overcome and the Hawks suffered a 5-1 loss.

Congratulation to the Brantford Saints on winning the tournament.

The team is excited to take the lessons learned in Brantford into the North London Blue and White Tournament next weekend.

Good luck boys.
