What a fantastic weekend on the campus of Notre Dame.
West London Hawks were Finalists in the very competitive Squirt A divison.
West London Hawks Atom MD team proudly represented London and Canada this weekend in the South Bend Cup hosted by Hockey Time Productions on the campus of Notre Dame.
Game one on Friday at 2:10pm versus St. Jude Knights from the south side of Chicago meant hitting the road at 6am. Even after the long drive, the boys were ready to play and handed the Knights a 6-1 loss. The game was very tight until the third period when our forecheck and pressure lead to a couple goals followed by an empty net finisher.
Game two saw another early morning with a 7:45am game time. The Evanston Wildkits played tough the whole game and made it close with a late goal to make the score 4-3. As we had all tournament, solid goaltending was the difference as the Wildkits put a lot of shots on our goalie.
Game three was a preview of the finals as the two undefeated teams met for the first time Saturday afternoon. The Wyandotte Warriors from Michigan put on a late push to score three goals and take the lead 5-4. West rallied to tie the game 5-5.
At 7:20am, the match continued in the final game for the hardware. A tie breaking goal scored by the Warriors with just over one minute left in the third period gave them the Champoinship.
The boys played well and never quit. Great preparation for what will be required to win the Silver Stick in Chatham next month.
