West London Tournament CHAMPS!
Congrats to our Minor Novice MD team on winning the "Silver" division championship today over a very tough Kensington team from Michigan in OVERTIME, 5-4.
Our boys battled hard all weekend, and faced a rematch against Kensington, who we'd beaten 5-3 in round robin play.
The Rebels came out fast, and after a slow start we managed to tie it up in the third after falling down a pair of goals midway through the second period. We had a questionable penalty call against Greenwell with less than two minutes remaining in the contest, so the team had to battle hard to kill it off. The overtime period saw us only have three skaters to their four, with lots of open ice and some great pressure-filled saves by Rizzo with the game on the line.
After his longest rest of the game (since he was in the penalty box!), Greenwell had something to prove. Once released from the sin bin, he teamed up with Richardson on a tenacious forecheck - and potted the top shelf winner - ending the Kensington quest for gold.
Looks like the Dad "Strategy Meeting" at Shoeless Joe's on Saturday night was a success - Tom, let's arrange to make this weekly - we don't want our team record to slide heading into the playoffs!
Great weekend boys, including a tough win against our rival North London Nationals in the semi-finals.
Enjoy your victory, you deserved it!
