Read Dedicates Shutout to his Grandmother as Hawks Win 4-0
The Hawks took to the ice for the second day in a row and turned in another stellar team game, defeating North London 4-0 on the strength of four goals from Theo Enns. Enns has been on a tear, scoring 13 of his team-leading 25 goals in the past three games.
The whole team played extremely well, but the game was especially meaningful for goaltender Zach Read who came from visiting his ailing grandmother at the hospital determined to win the game for her. Read not only won the game, he shut the Nationals out, with the highlight coming as he stoned a Nationals' shooter who broke in as part of a 3 on 0 from the Hawks' blueline.
While Enns and Read shone, the player of the game honours went to defensive stalwart Pyper Baker. Baker has the best hockey sense on the Hawks, which, combined with her graceful skating makes her a formidable defenseman. She reads the play superbly, cuts off opposition attacks before they get started, and, especially of late, makes precise passes to Hawks forwards to turn the play back up ice. This game was no different, as Baker picked up an assist and played a great game from start to finish.
With the win the Hawks moved into second place in the league - if they continue their excellent team play the sky is the limit for this team. Certainly, they are playing well going into next weekend's Jayden Memorial Tournament.
