How does West London select their coaches?
The Competitive Director selects a 3-4 person panel and a team lead per age group. Each panel member must not have a player at their assigned age group (neither in HL, MD, Mustangs or Junior Knights).
The team lead may add another panel member from outside the West organization.
The team lead then arranges an interview with each applicant and arranges a meeting room in a central location. At the interview, each applicant is asked the same series of questions and are scored based on the answers. Previous years coach's evaluations are taken into consideration, along with coaching experience, playing experience, leadership, communication, interpersonal skills, etc. Once these scores are captured, they are averaged across the panel and the applicant with the highest score is selected as the first choice for the position.
These scores are submitted to the Competitive Director and a board meeting is booked to make the final selections.
At the 4 hour board meeting, each team lead presents the findings and all board members are able to ask questions, the discussions are lengthy and every angle is reviewed. A vote is then conducted based on the recommendation of the team lead and if it passes, that person is the new coach. Any board member that has a child at the age group in discussion must abstain from the vote.
