Rowan's Law - Concussion Protocol - Mandatory Sign Off
On July 1st, 2019, Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), 2018 comes into effect. This new law makes it mandatory for all sports organizations to do the following:
1. Ensure that athletes, parents of athletes under 18, coaches and officials confirm every year that they have reviewed Ontario's concussion awareness resources
2. Establish a removal-from-sport (RFS) and return-to-sport (RTS) protocol
3. Establish a concussion code of conduct that sets out rules of behaviour to support concussion prevention
The review of concussion awareness resources and concussion codes of conduct are expected to be in place by July 1, 2019.
The rules for RFS and RTS are expected to be in place by July 1, 2020.
The Concussion Awareness Resource e-booklets are available below along with a confirmation form that you have reviewed the government's resource in accordance with the legislation.
ALL PLAYERS (PARENTS OF PLAYERS UNDER 18), ON ICE OFFICIALS, AND COACHES, MUST PRINT "OHF ROWANS LAW ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM" AND SEND TO TRISHA PHIBBS PRIOR TO STEPPING ON THE ICE FOR TRY OUTS IN THE FALL. FORMS CAN BE EMAILED TO [email protected].
