West London Hawks Minor Peewee MD - 2017 Byron Optimist Tournament Champs
Submitted By Brady Parr on Monday, January 30, 2017
What an incredible effort by the boys. After a slow start to the tourney with a hard fought tie against Hamilton and a 4 - 3 loss to Oakridge, the boys battled an incredibly tough defensive Woodstock team and earned a come-from-behind 2 - 1 win. They followed that with a semi final clinching 5 - 0 win against Stratford and a rematch against Hamilton. The team dominated Hamilton from the first puck drop to final buzzer and earned a birth in the finals against our friendly rivals Oakridge, with a 6 - 1 win!

The final game was a hard fought, classy and fun 2 - 1 victory. This is the 3rd tourney gold in a row for this team! What makes it even more of a team win is: the commitment and effort from all 17 players allowed us to rotate goalies and roll 3 lines for every minute of every game. There were no speciality teams - each player had a chance at the PP, the PK and the final minute of close games. And - this tourney win was achieved with many of the boys in new positions.

The class exhibited by this team is second to none. They play clean, don't retaliate, encourage each other, and even attempt to give the opposing goalie his stick back in the middle of a game, because that's the right thing to do.

Amazing effort and outcome Hawks! Let's keep it going in the playoffs, the Niagara Falls tourney and the Alliance Championship!

Signed:

Your proud Coaches"
