Once again, West London left everyone in their tracks when they came to town. Our
Major Atom MD and Minor Peewee MD teams both dominated at the Burlington MD Challenge Cup this past weekend and are both now 2 and 0 after their first two tournaments of the season!
Our Major Atom MD team opened the tournament with a strong 4-1 win against Burlington White on Friday. They had some team struggles in the evening game against Burlington Red and lost 4-1 to a hungry host team however they bounce back against Waterloo Black on Saturday with a 5-3 win. The semi final game on Sunday would be a re match against the aggressive Waterloo Black team and they hit that ice and played a strong team game and controlled the ice to a 6-1 win.
The Championship game Sunday afternoon would give them a chance to play Burlington Red, the one team that beat them in the Tournament. The Major Atom boys had experience playing in a Championship game this year and they knew what it would take to be victorious. They went out and left it all on the ice, playing as a team with some amazing passing. This team controlled most of the game and with a super hot goalie picking up a shutout, they won the Championship 3-0. This weekend was a great team game with great goal tending, puck movement and compete level. Our Major Atom boys believe in each other and they know how it feels to lose and what it takes to be Champions. Way to Go Major Atom MD Hawks!
Congratulations to the West London Hawks Minor Peewee MD team for winning the 2016
MD Challenge Cupin Burlington! The Hawks went 4 and 1 in the tournament, including
2 hard fought wins over the Waterloo Wolves in the round robin and gold medal games.
The Hawks success was a result of amazing goal tending, unselfish passing and a
commitment to team defense. The boys overcame rough play, some questionable calls
and absent players in the last 2 games - all the while maintaining a positive attitude.
In the gold medal game, the on ice play from both teams was incredible. Passing and
goal tending gave us the edge, and we took a 2 - 0 lead into the 3rd. Waterloo scored to
make it 2 - 1, then tied it up with 40 seconds to go. Some teams would fold after giving up
the lead that late in the game. Not these Hawks.
4 on 4 overtime solved nothing. Shortly after the 3 on 3 overtime started, a big save,
a big pass and a clutch shot gave the Hawks the win! After 4 years - finally MD Cup champs!
This tournament win was a true TEAM accomplishment. The Coaches and families
could not be prouder of this team!
Way to go Hawks!!!
