Hello West London Families,
I'd like to welcome everyone to the 2016-17 Major Novice Hawks MD2 tryouts. My name is Thomas Reichelt and I am excited to be the Coach for this year's team. I have two young boys in hockey and have been involved with Coaching right from when they were first on skates.
I have a passion for the game and believe positive feedback, encouragement, hard work, commitment, and most of all having FUN will develop strong personal character within a player, and build a great TEAM.
I grew up playing high level hockey and have been through numerous tryouts myself so I understand what these young athletes are going through. I encourage all kids that tryout to work hard, listen to the on ice staff, and do the best they can. The coaches reserve the right to decide which position a player selected will be playing during the season. A TEAM needs defence, forwards, and goalies - all positions need to be filled.
The following is the tryout schedule and plan:
Mon, Sept. 12th, 5:30 - 6:20 pm Nichols Arena - B Pad (tryout, skill based drills)
Wed, Sept. 14th, 6:00 - 6:50 pm Nichols Arena - A Pad (Dark jersey vs White jersey scrimmage)
Thurs, Sept. 15th, 6:00 - 6:50 pm Nichols - A Pad (Exhibition game vs Dorchester AE)
The team will be selected based on unbiased evaluators feedback (their kids are not trying out and they have no kids at the Novice level in the WLMHA). The first player release will be made after the 14th, final player release on the 15th. Please monitor the Major Novice MD2 website for tryout information and the players proceeding lists.
I'd like to make you aware of some of the commitments that come along with making the team:
- Consideration by parents to volunteer for team positions such as manager, treasurer, trainer, asst. coach, on-ice help, jersey custodian, and fundraising committee
- Parents will be asked to help with fundraising and to help acquire sponsorship's to help offset season and personal costs
- An average of 3-4 times a week commitment at the arena for games/practices
- On top of the fees you have already paid for registration and tryouts, a $375 competitive upcharge fee, and a $300-$400 team fund initiation fee will be required, this will help to cover the $400 refundable equipment deposit
- We will also be attending 4 tournaments. 2 away tournaments (one over Christmas Holidays) - 1 of which is an expected overnight stay for 2-3 nights, and 2 local tournaments
- Frequent parent voice loss due to cheering loud and proud for your West London Hawks!

Good luck to all,
Thomas Reichelt
