Competitive Expectations
Hello Everyone,

I would like take an opportunity to outline some of the expectations of players and families participating in West London Hawks MD hockey.  Competitive hockey is a very rewarding experience for young players however to be successful,  families must be committed 100% on and off the ice.  Please carefully consider some of the following expectations.

  • Our team will be on the ice 3-4 times weekly possibly more.  Every week we will have one most often two practices. Players will be required to be at the rink half hour before practice, dressed any ready 10min before we get on the ice.
  • We will play 1-2 games a week possibly more.  Home games will be played at Bostwick Community Center. Away games will be played throughout the city and out of town locations such as Sarnia,  Hamilton,  Burlington and St. Catharines.  Players will be required to be at games 45min before game time and participate in a team warm-up.
  • Four Tournaments have been scheduled, 2 home 2 away.  Our away tournaments are in the U.S. one in Detroit Michigan a second in Buffalo N.Y.(valid passport)  There is a strong possibility we will qualify for the Alliance Championships which will make five tournaments total. All tournaments start on a Friday which requires time off school and work.
  • All players will be require to have a team warm up suit.  Black Bauer or CCM style with the Hawks logo on the jacket.  It will be mandatory to wear team warm up suit to all games and tournaments.
  • All players will be required to wear black hockey equipment including helmet,  pants and gloves.  Only black or white stick tape and black or white skate laces are permitted.
  • Players may play out of preferred position regardless of what was indicated at sign up.  It is the decision of the coaching staff to place players in the best position for team success.
  • Volunteers.  The success of our team is built upon the hard work of several volunteers.  Parents and family members are requested to help (coaches, trainers, manager, treasurers etc.) Volunteers are also required to help at the West London competitive tournament.
  • Competitive MD up-charge. on top of the registration fees you have already payed there is a mandatory fee of approx. $400.00(per player) payed directly to the league.
  • Team Budget.  The financial commitment for team operations you can expect to contribute will be approx. an additional $800.00. These funds pay for tournament entry fees,  practice ice etc.(Note. tournament expenses, hotels and travel costs are players responsibility)
  • Fundraising can dramatically reduce the personal financial impact.  It is expected every family participate in achieving fundraising goals.
With tryouts starting next week I appreciate families taking some time to consider team expectations.  Our tryout schedule is very short and busy.  I know this can be very stressful time of year for both players and families.  I sincerely thank everyone for their interested in this years team.  I will post information regarding the tryout process in the coming days.   Coach Mike
