Minor Novice 2019–2020 MD Hockey Season!

Minor Novice Parents,

Hope everyone is having a great summer! My name is Nathan Doan and I am looking forward to coaching the Minor Novice Black MD Hawks this season. Although we’re a month away from hitting the ice, I wanted to share some important information about the upcoming season.

The development/tryout schedule has been posted on the West London Calendar.  Our development skates will take place on September 7th, 8th, 14th and 16th. Tryouts will begin September 21st, with the final tryout occurring Oct 30th.

As this is the first MD season for players and many parents I wanted to provide some information as to what you can expect:

  • 18 players will be selected for the team.
  • Games will be played using a half-ice model (video).
  • The MD team will target being on the ice approximately 3 times per week.
  • In addition to tournament travel there will be some travel for exhibition games and a few games in Sarnia during the regular season.
  • Players will be expected to be ready 10 minutes before practices and games and will be expected at the arena 45 minutes prior to games.
  • Players making the team will be required to pay an MD Bump Up Fee of $150 and a Team Fee of $400.
  • Warm-up suits will also need to be purchased as our game day attire.
  • Players and families will be expected to participate in fundraising initiatives throughout the season to help subsidize the cost of the season.
  • The team will compete in 4 tournaments:
    • Wayne Gretzky International, Brantford, ON – December 27 – 30, 2019
    • West London Competitive Tournament, London, ON – January 17 – 19, 2020
    • Gene Harrington Falls Classic, Buffalo, NY – February 21 – 23, 2020 (Traveling Feb 20th)
    • Alliance Championships, Burlington, ON – April 4 -5, 2020

The focus this year will be on individual skill development with some minor team play/system concepts mixed in.  Our keys to a fun and successful season will be Hard Work, Respect and Teamwork!

Please keep an eye on our website for any updates.
