Major Novice MD2 Tryout Process
Welcome everyone to the MD2 tryouts for Major Novice.  My name is Chris Latour and I am the VP of Competitive and will be leading the tryouts for the MD2 team this year as a coach is selected.  We are still looking for coaches at this level as many parents want to complete the MD1 tryout process prior to applying, applicants can contact myself if interested. We are looking forward to a great tryout, see you this weekend!

Tryout Logistics

Tryouts for this West London Hawks Minor Novice MD2 team begin on Saturday Sept 15th, 2018 – the full tryout details can be found on the team website.

I ask that all players be at the rink at least 30 minutes before the tryout time and that they are fully dressed (less helmets & gloves) at least 10 minutes before the tryout time. That will allow us to address any questions the players may have before we step onto the ice.

All players are asked to bring their own water bottle to each ice session. Jerseys will be assigned and handed out at each session (note that the jerseys must be returned at the end of each skate).

Team Selections/ Release

The team website above will be the source of information throughout the tryout process. All players will be invited to the three tryouts with final team selections made on approximately Sept 18th.

I have arranged for non-parent assistance through-out the tryout process. These volunteers will help with running on-ice sessions and will assist the coach with player evaluations and selections. There will be evaluators in the stands and I ask that parents refrain from interacting with the evaluators at the rinks during the tryout process.

For players who are not selected for this team, please check the website for more details on House League evaluations.

Positions

With the exception of the goalies, the coaching staff will determine player positions for those selected for this team based on individual skills and team needs. I expect that this will mean that some of the players will be playing different positions than in previous years. I expect that everyone is flexible even if a specific position was indicated on your tryout registration. If there are any concerns about possible position assignments (e.g. if a player is only interested in trying out for a single specific position) please let me know before the tryouts begin.

Competitive Surcharge

You have already paid for MD tryouts and the season registration before tryouts. A competitive surcharge of $375 will be payable to West London for all players who make this team to account for the costs related to the additional ice time and other added features of the MD competitive program. This fee will be collected by the team soon after team selection and will in turn be handed into West London Minor Hockey.

Team Fee/ Team Fundraising

A team fee will be collected which is above and beyond the base registration and competitive surcharge fees. This team fee covers the costs directly incurred by our team such as tournament entry fees, extra ice time, outside skill development, and more. The per player amount payable to the team will be based on budgeted costs and forecasted fundraising. Budget details will be shared with the parent group ASAP after the team is selected. The expected amount this year will be around $350

Note: the team fee will be payable immediately following team selection at the Player/Parent Meeting to fund tournament registrations and other team needs.
