We are quickly approaching September and with that, another season
of hockey. I for one am very excited to
get things started!
My name is Jeff Scarrow, and I
am honoured to be selected as this year’s Head Coach of the Major Novice MD1
team!
Hockey at all ages should be about having a great time,
making friends that will last a lifetime, and fulfilling the competitive fire
that lies within us all. My Coaching philosophy is that skill development, hard
work, dedication, respect and sportsmanship by all, are the keys to our success
as a team.
The players need to be given an opportunity to develop their skills in a safe and structured environment that challenges them, while also providing encouragement and support. The coaching staff of this year’s MD1 team will work to ensure that this environment is provided.
Try-out Process:
This year, Dwayne Blais and his team from Total Package Hockey will be helping out with the on-ice, as well as the evaluations portion of the the tryouts. There will also be a number of non-parent evaluators that have been selected to assist, providing input and ensuring a fair process.
Evaluators will be looking for a variety of attributes from each player including:
-Attitude
-Coach-ability
-Hockey Sense
-Skill
Tryout times and dates have been listed on the team calendar, under ‘Team Pages’, on the website. Please check back as we approach the first tryout to confirm the dates. The season will ramp up quickly beginning approximately the last weekend of September and ending in April. This year, we are entered into four excellent tournaments, all of which are posted on the calendar.
I am looking forward to enjoying a great season of hockey and would like to wish good luck to all players during the upcoming tryouts! The first player release will occur following the tryout on Saturday, September 8th. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the tryout process.
Regards,
Jeff
