St. Mary's Tournament Update
The MD Team White - Minor Novice Hawks made their first appearance
in tournament play in the St.Mary's AE Boys tournament this past weekend.
Tournament Summary:
The team's first game was against a strong Ilderton Jets team, losing a back and forth battle in the the opener Friday morning 2-0. Undeterred the Hawks showed up in the second game Friday ready to put into practice what they had learned resulting in a shut out win against the New Hamburg Huskies 1-0. Midday Saturday the Hawks face a very strong undefeated St. Mary's Rock host team which ended in a 3-3 tie only after the Rock scored with just over a minute left. Sunday found the a confident Hawks team ready to face the Jets again, this time in the semi-finals. The game went end to end throughout with both teams having a number of good scoring chances leaving fans on both sides cheering and gasping, but in the end the Jets found the back of the net with a shot deflected past the Hawks stellar goal tender.
Even though our Hawks ultimately lost in the semi-finals the coaching staff is extremely proud of our team of '09 Hawks which were the youngest team in the tournament often facing teams comprised of almost all '08 players.
