On October 17th, the West London Hawks Peewee MD team travelled to Port Huron to participate in the Halloween Showcase Peewee AA tournament.
Friday’s game versus Lakeland Falcons introduced the boys to the U.S. version of no body checking. Using their speed and determination, they were able to lock down a 5-0 shutout victory lead by the strong goaltending of Matthew Govier.
Saturday morning the boys played a very physical Macomb Mustang team. Spurred on by the return of goaltender Aidan Malpass from injury, the Hawks were able to grab and early lead and hold on for a 7-4 victory.
Looking a little tired in the third game versus the Orchard Lake United, Sullivan Gibb stepped up and lead the team with a hat trick. Riding his three goals, the team secured top spot in the pool and home team advantage in the finals.
The finals were a re-match of Friday’s contest versus Lakeland Falcons. The Hawks looked re-energized. Lead by Matthew Steinmann’s physical play and hat-tick, they were just too strong for the Falcons team. The final score was 6-1, securing the first tournament victory of the year the Peewee Hawks.
Congratulations to the boys on a great showing.
