Alliance Finalist - West London Atom MD
On an icy day in April, the West London Hawks Atom MD travelled to Stratford to particiapte in the Alliance MD Tier II Championships.
Fortunately, game one Friday morning was in St. Mary's, as most of Stratford was without power due to an ice storm. After a two week lay-off, the Kitchener Jr. Rangers Red gave the Hawks all they could handle and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Game two was scheduled for later that afternoon. Power was not restored at the Allman until after 5pm, so that game was pushed to Saturday afternoon. Following the schedule revision, the Hawks faced the host Stratford Warriors Saturday morning at the Allman. The Warriors played one of their strongest games of the year versus West London but the Hawks were able to secure the 3-1 victory.
Game three, saw the Hawks face the Eastern Atom Tier II Champions, St. Catherines Hurricanes. The Hurricanes set the tone early scoring two goals on the first three shifts. The Hawks were never able to recover and lost 6-2.
The semi-finals saw the Hawks face the Jr. Rangers. Both teams entered the game with 3 points. This time, the Hawks would not be denied and walked away with the 4-1 victory.
The finals saw a rematch with St. Catherines. Unfortunately, the Hurricane's game was just too strong and they handed the Hawks a 5-0 loss to secure the Alliance Tier II Atom Chamionship.
The Hawks went to Stratford to complete for the Championship and put themselves within one win of that goal.
The boys played well as a team and should be very proud of their accomplishments. With a season record of 53-24-8, Alliance MD League Championship, Noth London Tournament Champions, West London Tournament Finalists, South Bend Cup Finalists and Alliance Championship Finalists, the future appears bright for this team.
