Glacier Pointe - Halloween Showcase Tournament
The West London Atom MD Hawks had a great weekend in Port Huron.
Were were seeded with three Michigan based AA teams that play in the Little Ceasars Amateur Hockey League. Our first game against Blue Water Stars on Friday night was the most challenging. Our goaltending held them to a 10-1 victory.
The players were challenged with the rule differences: the no tag up off-side; no slap shots and the fact that body contact was permitted (although body checking was still a penalty????).
Saturday morning saw the players re-group and intensify their game. This lead to a well deserved 3-1 victory over the Royal Oak Eagles. Again, strong goal tending was a factor.
The final round-robin game saw us play Belle Tire (Dearborn) Saturday evening. Both teams played well, but we were still defeated 6-0.
With a record of 1 win and 2 losses, we finished third and were schedule to play Bell Tire again Sunday morning. There was a feeling this time could be different and we lead a significant portion of the game 1-0. Belle Tire continued to push hard and were rewarded with two goals. With the goalie pulled, the game ended 2-1 for Belle Tire.
The boys took the opportunity that playing better opponents offers to elevate their game. Over the weekend we came together as a team and left Michigan a better team.
